Anatomy
Bai Hui (百会), meaning “Hundred Meetings,” is the acupoint GV-20 located at the vertex of the head, approximately at the intersection of the midline and the line connecting the apexes of the ears.
Role in Tai Chi
The principle of “Xu Ling Ding Jing” (虚灵顶劲) — meaning “empty collar, suspended crown” — refers to lightly lifting through Bai Hui to create an upright, lengthened spine. Imagine a silk thread gently pulling the crown upward.
This action:
- Straightens the cervical spine
- Releases tension in the neck and shoulders
- Creates a sense of lightness and alertness
