Lao Gong (劳宫), meaning “Labor Palace,” is the Pericardium-8 (PC-8) acupoint located at the center of the palm where the middle finger touches when the hand makes a loose fist.

Role in Tai Chi

The palms are considered major gateways for Qi. Practitioners often describe sensations of warmth, tingling, or fullness in Lao Gong during practice. This point is used in:

  • Sensing energy during push hands
  • Emitting Qi in healing practices
  • Feeling the connection between hands and body
  • Maintaining relaxed, open palms during form practice
